You may or may not need a visitor visa to visit Russia, depending on your citizenship. Citizens from many countries and EU Nationals need a visa to visit Russia.
You will find more information here.
When to apply?
According to the rules of the consulate, applicants have the right to apply for a visa no earlier than 90 days before the date of travel. We recommend that you apply for a visa at least 6 weeks before your travel date, taking into account possible unforeseen delays.
Sending of invitations will begin on March 1, 2020.
Starting from October 1, 2019, nationals of 53 foreign Statesmay be granted an e-visa to enter the Russian Federation through air, naval, automobile, and pedestrian checkpoints located in the territory of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
PLEASE NOTE: Entry and exit on an e-visa by means of rail transport is currently unavailable.
An e-visa is issued within 4 calendar days, including week-ends and bank holidays.
There is no need for any invitations or confirmations. Just fill in the application form on the website.
There is no need to waste your free time or working hours to visit the consular agency during its business hours. The website works 24/7.
You do not need to pay for anything to obtain an e-visa.
If you get an electronic visa, you can’t take a trip to Moscow and other region of Russia!
For registration of foreign citizens at the hotel, a fee of 3 € will be charged.
Validity of Electronic visa
Electronic visas are issued for a period of validity of 30 days, starting from the date of issue, with a permitted stay of up to 8 days from the date of entry.
You can apply for an electronic visa no earlier than 20 days and no later than 4 days before the expected date of entry into the Russian Federation. Along with the visa application, you need to attach a color digital photo in the form of an electronic file.
The permitted stay in the Russian Federation on an electronic visa up to 8 days does not mean the possibility of staying for 192 hours (24 hours x 8) net time. The begin of the period of stay in the Russian Federation is always rounded up to 00 hours 00 minutes of the date of passport control at the entrance, regardless of the real time passport control.
An example. You have an electronic visa valid from July 15 to August 13 and have passed passport control at the entrance at 20:00 on Saturday, August 1. In this case, you need to go through passport control at the check-out before 23 hours 59 minutes on Saturday, August 8 (it will be a mistake to consider that you can leave Russia before 20 hours on Sunday, August 9). Also note that if you passed passport control at the entrance to Russia with an electronic visa, shown in the previous example, for example, on August 10, then in the future you need to pass passport control at the exit before 23 hours 59 minutes on August 13, that is, before the expiration date electronic visa.
